WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
WHAT IS A GLOBAL GRANT
Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in one of Rotary’s areas of focus. You can visit My Rotary Grant Center for information on types of grants and how to apply.
You can download the District’s comprehensive Global Grant Checklist of the steps to writing a Global Grant, including links to information and where to find help. Before starting a Global Grant, we recommend contacting the District Global Grant Chair. They are there to help you get the information you need to get started.

HOW THEY’RE FUNDED
The minimum budget for a Global Grant is $30,000. Clubs contribute cash. District 5020 will match all cash donations from clubs in our district 100% up to $20,000 with District Designated Funds (DDF). The World Fund matches 80% of the DDF. For example: club contribution of $25,000 cash plus district DDF of $20,000, plus World Fund 80% match of $16,000 = $61,000 project.
TIMELINE OF APPLICATIONS
Global Grants can be applied for any time. TRF requires clubs to “submit” a grant application within one year of the date that the club started the application online. The limitation as it relates to District 5020 is the possibility of using all the available DDF District match while there may still be grant applications in the queue. In that case grant applications will be “moved” into the next Rotary year in the order that they were submitted.
IS A GLOBAL GRANT WORTH THE EFFORT?
TRF is ranked 100% on charity navigator in accountability and finance, culture and community, and leadership and adaptability. They have set high stands for us in the work that we do. They require us to learn about effective grant management, which will ensure your grant is sustainable and will maximize the impact in the community where you are working. Applying for a global grant is worth the learning. Not only will you get the economic benefit of up to $27,000US, but you also have access to this list of resources to make your project better.
