August is Celebrate Membership and New Club Development Month
This month is dedicated to the growing of Rotary’s impact through expansion of membership and the development of new clubs. This initiative underscores the importance of attracting new members and fostering leadership within communities to address pressing local and global challenges.
Membership is the lifeblood of Rotary. A diverse and engaged membership brings in a wealth of experience, perspectives, and skills. New members enhance our organizations ability to serve our communities effectively. Increasing membership not only strengthens existing clubs but also opens doors for new ideas, projects, and collaborations among clubs.
Our clubs thrive on the energy and enthusiasm of our members. Engaging individuals from various backgrounds ensures that clubs reflect the communities we serve, and allow for more relevant and impactful service projects.
The Establishment of NEW Rotary clubs is necessary to expanding the organizations reach and influence locally and globally. New clubs provide opportunities for individuals who may not have access to existing clubs as family schedules, work schedules, etc. do not allow them join an existing clubs meeting times to participate in Rotary’s mission of Service about Self.
During Membership and New Club Development month, Rotary clubs are encouraged to explore innovative ways to attract new members and/or create new club in that area. How? This can happen by the club hosting an informational meeting, community service event promoting the community to participate, or social gatherings that showcase the benefits of Rotary membership. Another way to promote Rotary is to just ask a friend, coworker, or acquaintance if they would like to be a part of serving your community to better quality of life of those around us. Have them visit your club, participate in a project, and get them engaged!
Membership Chairs should encourage their exiting members to invite a friend to a club activity. I knew nothing about Rotary when I was invited to attend a meeting. From that meeting, I explored what Rotary was all about and its impact not only in my community but globally as well. I joined several weeks later. I was assigned an experienced Rotarian (mentor) from the club to work with me on my checklist of activities from reciting the 4 Way test at a club meeting to being a greeter at the meeting to visiting a club member’s business to find out more about them. It is a meaningful experience.
Rotary should be visible in your community. Enhance public awareness of Rotary through public awareness, community events, and partnering with local organizations on projects.
Membership and New Club Development Month serves as a pivotal reminder of the commitment to community service and leadership development. Be the One to invite a spouse, family member, friend, or someone new to the community. Embrace growth and it will be the key to addressing new challenges and empower individuals to make a difference in our communities together.
