ABOUT THE PROJECT

Gumboot Books, a Vancouver-based company, wishes to join forces with Rotary District 5020 in supporting literacy through the production of a children’s book, entitled “A World of Stories”, to be available from Sept. 8, 2008 World Literacy Day . Costs to print this book are estimated at $15,000 for 3000 copies. All participating authors and illustrators have donated their time and talents, and Gumboot Books is handling all aspects of editing, design, production and marketing.  50% of revenues will be donated to Rotary District 5020 from each book sold in Canada and the U.S. Additional fundraising opportunities exist for clubs who are interested in assisting with marketing and promotion. In order to raise the publication money, Gumboot Books would like to approach the clubs in District 5020 for sponsorship in the form of pre-ordering copies of the books to donate to libraries, schools and literacy groups in their area. Each sponsoring club will be recognized in the books as well as on the website promoting the project. Several levels of sponsorship are available.

ABOUT GUMBOOT BOOKS

Gumboot Books is an innovative Vancouver based company, founded in 2006, that specializes in the production of eco-friendly books and educational materials for children. Their aim as a company is to encourage reading, writing and learning in children of all ages, while at the same time using business practices that minimize their ecological footprint. All their books and associated materials are printed in Canada on recycled and recyclable paper, and encourage people of all ages to be open minded, accepting of diversity, and mindful of the planet we all share. They work with authors and illustrators from around the world and are active in introducing new talent to the children’s book scene. Gumboot Books is active in promoting literacy, and are currently the sponsor for the Brunch for Books at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in aid of Raise-a-Reader. Publisher Crystal Stranaghan has strong Rotary roots, and would like the “World of Stories” project to support Rotary literacy initiatives in District 5020.
