District Governor's Visit Protocol

Once a year the District Governor makes an official visit to each club in the district.

The Purpose of the Visit

  • To allow the District Governor to communicate with club members.

  • For the sharing of helpful information with the club officers.

  • To focus attention on important Rotary matters.

  • To personally recognize the outstanding contributions of Rotarians.

  • Norm and Marion look forward to meeting all Rotarians.

The Process

Prior to the District Governor’s visit, the assistant Governor will meet with the officers of the club to review the club’s Planning Guide and to obtain specific information requested by the District Governor. At this time the officers of the club may also determine questions or issues which could be discussed with the DG.

The Assistant Governor should re-confirm the date of the visit, time and place.
At this time, the club officers may request that the DG perform a new member installation, the awarding of a Paul Harris Fellow, or any other special certificate. If time and schedule permit the DG would like to visit Rotary community projects in the area.

The Assistant Governor will work with the DG in making arrangements for accommodation, and clubs will be asked to share some costs associated with the DG visits. The Assistant Governor will accompany the DG and his wife to meetings.

Visit Meeting

The District Governor, his wife and the Assistant Governor are guests of the club and the Governor’s presentation is the program for the visit meeting. It is not appropriate to schedule any other program on that day. Please arrange a screen for a presentation which will run as members gather for the meeting.

Norm and Marion hope that you will make every effort to have all Rotary members attend, and it would be their pleasure to meet partners and guests as well. Where possible the DG and his wife would like to meet young people who may be guests and/or representatives of Rotaract and Interact clubs.

Meeting Protocol

As District 5020 is an international district, please ensure that both National flags are displayed and that the anthems, or pledge, of the countries are part of the meeting. The national anthems and flag etiquette information appear in this Resource Directory. The actual DG visit schedule is posted on the website.
