The Rotary Foundation - Polio Plus
Dear fellow Rotarians,

The Rotary Foundation and our partners in the battle to eradicate polio and are making remarkable progress. The struggle is taking longer than we hoped but each day we get closer to keeping Rotary's promise to the children of the world. The latest data on the eradication of polio are very encouraging. The number of cases compared to this time last year is lower in the remaining four endemic countries, particularly Nigeria.

Your help is still required. Our goal is to have every Rotary club, Interact club, Rotaract club and District in Zone 22 make a contribution to the PolioPlus Partners fund. This may be donating one week or month's club fine dollars or holding a special club PolioPlus Partners fund raising event.

Individual Rotarians are encouraged to make a contribution. All funds donated receive Paul Harris Fellow recognition points. In addition, The Rotary Foundation is matching every $1 donated with $.50. This includes clubs, districts and individual Rotarians.

Many Rotary clubs recognize the weekly speaker with a donation to PolioPlus partners. If your club is making a club member or community member a Paul Harris Fellow why not make the donation to PolioPlus Partners?

Many districts have already contributed 10% of their Rotary Foundation District Designated Funds (DDF) to the PolioPlus Partners fund. We hope the remaining districts will make the same commitment.

Clubs and districts may select a project from the Open Projects List (OPL). The list contains eight (8) polio eradication projects in need of a total of $2,298,955. Two new projects have been submitted by the National PolioPlus Committees in Ethiopia and Democratic Republic of Congo.

To help achieve this goal, there is a PowerPoint presentation and speaking notes which can be used by all Rotarians.

Copies of this PowerPoint presentation and speaking notes are available upon request by e-mailing polioplus@rotary.org. The presentation is available in English and French.

The following polio tools and resources are also available in English and French to use for PolioPlus programs in clubs, districts and Interact and Rotaract clubs:
