| The Rotary Foundation - Permanent Fund |
Rotary International has the objective of the Permanent Fund reaching one billion dollars US by year
2020.As of 2001, contributions to the Permanent Fund were $80.9 US million dollars.
The purpose of the Permanent
Fund is to ensure the long-term viability of The Rotary Foundation and its
programs. The contributions made to the Permanent Fund are invested in
perpetuity.
The earnings from the
Permanent Fund are used to supplement the Annual Fund or underwrite new
humanitarian, cultural and educational programs. Rotarians (or others) who
make donations or commitments to donate $1000.US or more, are presented a
certificate designating them a Benefactor.
Examples of the types of gifts
that are received by the Permanent Fund are:
A minimum of $1000 US
designated on the blue and white “Benefactor Card” and assigned to the
Rotary Foundation by a Codicil in a Will, a Life Insurance policy
beneficiary or a cash donation
Becoming a member of the Bequest Society by providing for a
donation of $10,000 US or more in a Will, Life Insurance policy, Living
Trust or a Charitable Remainder Unitrust.
Outright gifts of property,
cash or investments to the Foundation can be administered to meet the
requirements of the Donor, such as Life Income Gifts or Life Estates.
There are several endowed
opportunities within the Permanent Fund:

$25,000 (minimum) will
establish a named fund within the Permanent Fund from which earnings can
be directed to either the District Designated Fund or World Fund

$50,000
(minimum) may be designated to support an approved Foundation program
(e.g., Joe and Jane Rotarian Matching Grant Funds)
-
$150,000 (minimum) will
fund establishment of a named fund to support a project within an
approved Foundation Program (e.g., The Joe and Jane Rotarian Endowed
Ambassadorial Scholarship)
-
$500,000 (minimum) can
endow one of the first Rotary World Peace Scholarships at one of the new
Rotary Centers for International Studies
-
$1,000,000 (minimum) may
fund a new Foundation program and /or activity within Trustee guidelines
-
Recognition for Benefactors
is a Certificate and an insignia that attaches to the Rotary Pin
-
Major Donors whose
cumulative contributions exceed $250,000 US may have their photograph
permanently displayed in the Rotary Hall of Honor at Rotary International
World Headquarters
