This would allow me the opportunity to learn about the current procedures and processes of environmental management and sustainable development in Brazil, what level of awareness exists with the changes occurring in the environment, what expertise is available and what type of labour is used for different projects, and about the decision makers and their academic backgrounds. I would like to learn about project management methods used in Brazil, the different types of Brazilian technologies available for remediation projects and other fieldwork and also what types of sustainable practices are currently used in Brazil.

Personal History:
Gillian has been working in the environmental profession for the past 10 years. During this time she has been employed in both the public and private sectors, and is currently a project manager for an environmental consulting firm in Victoria. Prior to entering the environmental field she was involved in accounting/administration while pursuing a general accounting designation. The highlight of Gillian's "first career" was working in the United Kingdom for a large oil company responsible for building oil platforms in the North Sea.

During the past 8 years Gillian has been actively involved with the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) and has chaired various committees including the Education, Technical Program and Professional Development Committees. She is currently the Chair Elect for the Vancouver Island Chapter. Gillian is also involved with regional and municipal advisory committees relating to the environment, regional parks and civic heritage. Rowing is a major component of Gillian's lifestyle, an activity she plans to take into her 'golden' years. She is attracted to water (bodies, falls, etc.) and enjoys reading, classical music and jazz (she plays the alto sax), dabbling with watercolors and sketching, travel, and experiencing other cultures.
