Club History and Centennial Involvement
Longview Rotary was chartered in 1926 shortly after the City of Longview began to develop. Long Bell Lumber Company began to construct an enormous lumber mill along the Columbia River and developed the City of Longview to house the many employees.

Robert Long and his executive team at Long Bell had a dream for a planned city. Their vision lives on in the many public buildings constructed at Long Bell expense. Robert Long and others who would follow believed in the nobility of Service Above Self.

Rotary has been a strong presence in the community. We currently have 160 members. The club is proud to have assisted in the chartering of the Early Edition Rotary Club of Longview and the Rotary Club of Woodland.

Longview Rotary has taken a leadership role in the support of healthy youth activities including foreign exchange, RYLA, scholarships, Junior Achievement and athletic contests.

To financially support our outreach, the club has a number of fundraising events. Perhaps our most unusual event is the hosting of a very physically challenging bicycle ride to the upper levels of Mount St. Helens and back down again. This wildly successful event is held in June and attracts more than 1200 riders.

Over the last decade our community has been particularly hard hit with the loss of many family wage manufacturing jobs. Many families are struggling with day to day issues of food and housing. A local visionary (Lion Club members have good ideas too) organized the community's service organizations to conduct an enormous food drive for local food banks. Rotary purchases 35,000 bags each year which are distributed into the county. This year the bags are emblazoned with the Rotary Centennial Logo. On the 1st Saturday of December hundreds of volunteers canvas the county for food donations. This effort touches the hearts of all participants.

Our Rotary meetings are fun and our programs are always informative or entertaining. Many remember graphic photographs of eye surgery while we attempted to munch on our lunch. Come and join us for lunch and friendship each Wednesday.

1 eggplant unpeeled and diced
1 medium onion coarsely chopped
1/2 cup chopped celery
2 cloves garlic minced
8 oz tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
3/4 cup pitted sliced ripe olives
1/2 cup salad olives chopped

Cook quail
Prepare fire in charcoal grill. Wipe excess marinade off quail and grill quail skin side down for 4-5 minutes. Turn and continue cooking for 2-3 minutes until browned.

Serve the quail on a bed of Camanota with Mango Relish on the side. Camapnota is also delicious served as an appetizer on crackers or Italian bread.

Henri Paul owns Henri's Restaurant in Longview and this is a Signature Dinner there.
