Club History and Centennial Involvement
The Duncan Daybreak Rotary Club was Chartered on April 25, 2000. The Charter Night was held at the Cowichan Golf Club. A total of 48 members were inducted as Charter members that evening. The Club was co-sponsored by the Duncan and South Cowichan Clubs, with 6 former members of each of the sponsoring clubs as the organizing Steering Committee. The Charter President was John Horgan, {Past President-South Cowichan, and Past Assistant Governor, Area 3}until June 30, 2000. Since then three of the last 5 Presidents have come from the co-sponsoring Clubs. They are Bruce Stott, Past President (Duncan), Dave Free, Past President (South Cowichan) and the current 2004-05 President, Ken Newcomb, Past President (Duncan) and Past Assistant Governor, Area 3.

Although only in its 5th year, the Club has accomplished a number of noteworthy projects:

1. Sponsored Outbound and In bound exchange Students from Thailand, Denmark, Belgium and Chile.
2. Sponsored the First Abbeyfield House in Duncan with both funding and hands on work parties.
3. Annual supporter of Canada Day celebrations and 12 hour Relay at Cowichan Sportsplex.
4. Supported the R.I. Literacy project with annual gifts of dictionaries to grade 4 students in both public and private schools in the Cowichan Valley for the last three years.
5. Sponsored the Cowichan Greens Community garden project by funding the refurbishing of the City of Duncan public washrooms in Centennial Park to be used for the exclusive use of Greens members while working the gardens.
6. The Centennial Project of the Club is to dismantle and rebuild the farm market sheter from its former site on the Mound parking lot to Centennial Park and Cowichan Sportsplex.
7. The Club is currently working on an International project to provide eye glasses to the needy in Guatemala.
8. The Club has achieved District recognition for its high per capita contributions to the Rotary Foundation in each of the last two years.

Approximately 1/3 of our members are women and the Executive has been evenly balanced.

Duncan Daybreak currently has 38 members. We meet Friday mornings at 7:00 a.m. Cowichan Golf Club. COME AND JOIN US, YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN...

Our favourite Recipe
Greek Shrimp

olive oil
2 medium onions, chopped 28 oz diced tomatoes
3 cloves garlic, chopped 1 tbsp basil
1 tbsp oregano 1/2 cup white wine
1 lb shrimp 6 oz feta chees, crumbled
salt & pepper

Saute onions and garlic in olive oil until just softened. Add tomatoes, basi and oregano, simmer for 5 miknutes. Add white wine and shrimp. Simmer unitl shrimp are pink. Blend in feta chees without melting. Salt and pepper to taste.
