Registration for Sessions

This year each participant in the DLTA 2009 is asked to register in advance for one training session in each of the Breakouts (I, II, III, &IV).

It is anticipated that participants taking the Abuse Prevention Training Program will select the session offered in each of breakouts I, II, & III. Also club officers (presidents-elect, secretaries and treasurers) are encouraged to select the core program offerings for presidents-elect in I, II, &III, secretaries and treasurers in I & II; Rotary club directors are encouraged to take the appropriate session in breakout I. Electives are available for all participants in each of the breakouts.

Breakout I (Saturday 1:00 – 2:00 PM)

Presidents-elect Session (core program)
Presidents-elect will examine the characteristics which help make a club effective, learn how to set goals,
and review the Club Leadership Plan as described by Rotary International.

Club Secretaries Session (core program)
All incoming secretaries will become familiar with RI, District 5020, and club reporting procedures and record keeping. Hands-on use of the computer will be a part of this session.

Club Treasurers Session (core program)
All treasurers will be introduced to basic budgeting procedures, a system of collecting dues, and methods for making deposits and paying bills.

Youth Abuse Prevention Session (core program)
This session begins the three-part series on Abuse and Harassment Prevention Training which is recommended for all who work within Rotary youth programs.

Foundation and Service Directors Session (core program)
This session will examine the responsibilities of the Foundation and Service Directors, how they work together, and means of establishing a plan for the Rotary year.

Membership and Public Relations Directors Session (core program)
This session will examine the responsibilities of the Membership and Public Relations Director, how their roles are linked, and means to develop a plan for the Rotary year.

Club Admin. Directors Session (core program)
This session will examine the responsibilities of the Club Administration Director and the means of organizing an action plan for club administration.

Microcredit Opportunities in Rotary (elective)
This is a session open to all Rotarians and it is a question and answer form to explore how to become involved in Microcredit programs related to Rotary.



Breakout II (Saturday 2:15 – 3:15 PM)

Presidents-elect Session (core program)
This session assists the incoming president with ways to establish committees and a club administrative system. A PE’s reverse calendar is presented to assist planning for the beginning of the new Rotary year.

Club Secretaries Session (core program)
This session will assist the secretary with strategies to work with the club officers and directors, and with the specific duties outlined in the “Club Secretary’s Calendar”.

Club Treasurers Session (core program)
This session will introduce the treasurer to certain procedures and software which are designed to assist the Rotary club treasurer. Hands-on computer experience is included.

This session is the second of the three-part series on Abuse and Harassment Prevention Training which is recommended for all who work within Rotary youth programs.

RYLA & Interact Youth Programs (elective)
This session will include a description of the RYLA program for the coming year, and some sound suggestions for working with an Interact club in your community.

Fundraising Activities in District (elective)
This session will describe a variety of fundraising activities ongoing in district with some practical suggestions on how to implement the activities.

Rotary for All Members (elective)
This session will offer a wealth of information about Rotary so any member may learn “what is what” in Rotary.

Communicating with the Media (elective)
This session will offer practical hints and workable suggestions for getting stories into the media within your community.


Breakout III (Saturday 3:45 – 4:45 PM)

Presidents-elect Session (core program)
Presidents-elect will work with their Area AG on actual goal setting and examine the important factors in running excellent club meetings.

Youth Abuse Prevention Session (core program)
This session is the third of the three-part series on Abuse and Harassment Prevention Training which is recommended for all who work within Rotary youth programs.

Literacy Programs (elective)
This session will offer practical ideas for involving your club members in literacy programs which are already flourishing within the district.

Foundation Grant Writing (elective)
This session will describe sample grants which have been written for Rotary Matching and District Simplified Grant programs. A question and answer format will be used.

Membership Development (elective)
This session will offer strategies for membership recruitment and retention that have worked successfully in our Rotary district.

Leadership Beyond the Club (elective)
This session will describe the many opportunities for serving Rotary at the district level and beyond.

Using the District and RI Websites (elective)
This session will explore a variety of ways in which district and RI websites may be used to uncover Rotary resources for all Rotarians. Hands-on computer use in included.

Rotary Exchanges – Friendship and House Exchanges (elective)
This session will describe the many opportunities for Rotarians to exchange with other Rotarians in other districts of the world.


Breakout IV (Sunday 8:45 – 9:45 AM)

World Community Service Programs (elective)
This session will offer practical ideas for initiating WCS programs suitable for clubs within district. Many ideas come from attendance at project fairs in the Rotary world.

Foundation 101 (elective)
This session will offer an outline of the major programs of the Rotary Foundation and how each may be an integral part of every Rotary club.

Using the District and RI Websites (elective)
This session will explore a variety of ways in which district and RI websites may be used to uncover Rotary resources for all Rotarians. Hands-on computer use in included.

Group Study Exchange Preparation (elective)
This session will offer practical suggestions for hosting GSE teams and how to recruit members from your own community.

Running a Great Meeting (elective)
This session will offer many practical ideas for running great Rotary meetings. It will include available resources for uncovering excellent speakers and good program ideas.

Rotary Youth Exchange Program (elective)
This session will offer information about the Rotary Youth Exchange Program and how to organize a sound program for students who participate.

Rotary Scholarship Programs (elective)
This session will outline the Rotary scholarship programs available in district, how to get involved, and it will include an opportunity to hear from a scholarship participant.
